12.28.2023Happy Anniversary to this sweet couple! Married at the Tendue in the Ford Building (portland Oregon) this small intimate wedding was just as sweet as the couple, I just love a couple that gets ready together. Its so sweet to spend those moments of anticipation together and honestly I still cant get over that emerald Wedding dress! Please enjoy these Wedding pictures :) I love being a Wedding Photographer because its a little bit of so many types of photography. Its documentary, its details and macro photography, its lifestyle. I love the mixture of posed and candid shots. I am always trying to get a little better at the candids, it can be challenging to put the people around you at ease. Its a unique balance of being personable and social with wedding guests but also being a fly on the wall and letting everything happen around you but not interfere. Ive listened to so many lectures on different photographers approaches to how to do this, Ive done intense planning, I've winged it. Ive tried so many approaches and I honestly can say its just takes practice. Heres to so much more practice in 2024!!! “I see it’s coming. Nudity Fortress, Naked Garment."Mai Ide and Pcp are a BIPOC art collective. The title of this project is “I see it’s coming. Nudity Fortress, Naked Garment" I have been lucky enough to photography is work a couple times now, following it through Art Shows throughout the city. Watching it and the artists evolve and putting together this shoot was really incredible.
Mai had a clear vision. Her work is visual and interactive. Its clean and somewhat whimsical. I also find it thought provoking, so deep and so lovely. I obviously adore it but I don't want to interpret it. That is for the artist and then the audience to do. As the photographer I am the bridge between the artist and the audience and my goal is to make the artist voice speak loud and clear. Working to see Mai's vision so that I could clearly photograph it was one of those creative challenges that just thrills me! Beyond that I offer no other description of this work or what it means. I encourage you to be the audience here and then seek out these artists to learn more. Here are a bunch of links to start with! Pcp's instagram Mai website Mai instagram Naked Garment Website Stevens Meadows, Lake Oswego, OregonWhen I pulled up to Stevens Meadow in Lake Oswego the storm clouds were rolling in. It looked amazing and I was really excited! A few minutes before my client arrived, the rain came and it was showing no signs of stopping. It was really only that misty misty PNW rain but growing up in Southern California, the first instinct was to reschedule. I quickly talked myself out of that because I'm a Pacific Northwesterner now! (thats the term, right!?) I moved to Oregon 7 years ago in search of lush greenery and the sweet smell of rain and I was not about to run away! I have a really adorable handmade Camera Cozy that keeps the rain off my camera and a cute umbrella (for photo purposes only) so I knew we could do this! If my client was up for it, I was too! Lucky me they weren't afraid either and having a family photo session in the rain, thats something these kids are not going to soon forget. I know I won't! We made use of all the big trees and any over hangs I could find but in the end, we were really just in the rain! Good thing I'm used to working fast. All my 'training' photographing small children, dogs, out in public and at weddings, I know how to get the shots I want quickly!! Even so, by the time we were finished we were all pretty soaked. This might not have worked for every family, I did really love the adventurous spirit of this one and the memories we made that day. The Pacific Northwest -ness is so strong in this session! Help! |
