about elle
What is Hygge?pronounced {hue-guh} Hygge is a Danish design philosophy with no English translation. It strives to create coziness, warmth and contentment in all aspects of life. Hygge is that feeling of deep contentment and peace. So inspired by this concept I use the principles of hygge not only in my home but also in my work. With my camera I am looking to capture all those hygge moments that fill my clients lives as well. |
hello there!I’m Elle, I am a Wedding, Portrait & Street Art Photographer currently located in Portland, Oregon. I am inspired by the simple moments and inanimate objects that color our world. Whether my subject is a newborn baby, a blushing bride, a small mushroom, or a colorful dumpster my intention is to always highlight its beauty.
I named my business Hygge {hue-guh} after a Danish design and lifestyle philosophy meaning to embody a sense of warmth, intimacy, charm & contentment. I use this philosophy in all aspects of my work. Even through a photojournalistic approach my objective is to capture those sweet hygge filled moments. I use a classic, minimalistic, and timeless approach to editing and post-processing which gives extra life to these moments. At home you can find my cuddling my two dogs while I’m editing my latest photo session or out in the backyard gardening and throwing sticks for those pups! I really love long walks, sometimes on the beach, but mostly just in my neighborhood. I find them so therapeutic and it’s also when I get out to explore and find the Street Art I photograph. I am also currently a student, attending ASU online! I am working on a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Information Technologies with an emphasis in Photography. I plan to continue on to a Master’s Program studying Art History and Photography. I first studied Photography way back in High School, taking so many semesters in the photography department they ran out of class numbers. It was film only, (pre-2000) and I just loved it. There’s nothing like the snap of an analog shutter and the smell of the darkroom. I connected instantly with photography, becoming editor of the High School yearbook as well and even taking my first family portrait session. I studied more photography in college but eventually started studying Interior Design, thinking photography and art should just be hobbies. How wrong I was (?!), but I did learn so many principles of design, color theory, order, and organization that I use in my art and photography today. While I was studying Interior Design the world was going digital so after I graduated College, more and more unfulfilled in my Interior Design path, I taught myself Photoshop and got my hands on a digital camera. First capturing my own babies, then the neighbors. Then someone needed a wedding photographer. Then, well, the rest is history. Now after 25 years photography has been the most constant thing in my life. It’s a bit of a security blanket but it’s the way I relate, communicate, and add value. It’s a real special thing to capture poignant moments in other people’s lives. It’s also amazing to see someone light up and become confident in front of the camera when they swear, they aren’t photogenic (this part, for real!) It’s all so awesome, I feel beyond lucky! Sooooo, I’d love to work with you! If you enjoy my work and would like to work together, you can message me through the INQUIRE button below. |
